11 Jul Berlin Marathon Prep Starts Here!
A long, long, long, overdue blog!… Summer is here and the marathon training is back under way, it might not be for the race I hoped, but a great race non-the-less with a World Record attempt!
My result back at the London Marathon in April meant that I did not qualify for the world championships coming to London next month. Initially I was disappointed with how the race went, however the bad result does open doors to other ventures.
It is now just under 12 weeks until the Berlin Marathon and this gives me a great opportunity to run fast, something I might not have got had I qualified for the world championships in London. The good thing to come out of the London Marathon was that I was first English male, and hopefully this holds some weight when it comes to selections for the Commonwealth Games. Hopefully I can go to Berlin and run under the 2hrs 14mins that is required.
It was recently announced that Eliud Kipchoge is running the Berlin Marathon this year, and is going for the world record of 2hrs 02min 57sec – someone must have told him the previous 3 marathon world records I have been in the race. (Berlin, 2011, 2013, 2014) – Pretty much guaranteed then!
This past weekend I kick started the marathon training with the Virgin Sport British 10km – it was a great race, and I was fortunate enough to take the win. The time wasn’t anything special but does it get any more British as having a can of beans in the goody bag at the end! – Article from the weekend can be found here
So here’s to the next 11 weeks of marathon training!
